Thanksgiving Update
Let's start with the birds. It's been more than a month since my last blog entry, and in that time I've added three new species to my yard list. On October 23rd I scored a Magnolia Warbler. Then on the afternoon of November 7th I had a Great-tailed Grackle and a small flock of southbound Scissor-tailed Flycatchers. A hummingbird (presumably Ruby-throated) that stopped here on November 7th was the last one I've seen this fall. Most of the winter birds are back, but have been slow in returning - I didn't get my first White-throated Sparrow until November 19th.
A Razorback Musk Turtle basking with Red-eared Sliders on a log at the back of the pond on November 7th was a new addition to my backyard reptile list.
I spent Thanksgiving alone, but managed to have a good time anyway. Had a late dinner, then saw Charlie Robison perform at Wild Bill's in Beaumont. Ok, so my holiday lacked the usual festivities, but the alternative wasn't bad. Good country music, lots of beer, and a room full of pretty girls. Could be worse. Tomorrow it's back to work, then I get two days off. Yee-HAW!
